So long and farewell to the Volkswagen Beetle

This is a post we at Mohegan Lake Volkswagen write with a heavy heart. Back in March, Volkswagen announced that they'd be retiring the iconic Volkswagen Beetle after the 2019 model year. That's right, after three generations and 70 years on the pavement, the Beetle will be driving off into the sunset. And last week, Volkswagen let us know how they'd be planning to celebrate the models last year: with two additional Final Edition trims.

Shoppers interested in a 2019 Volkswagen Beetle will be able to get a Final Edition SE trim or a Final Edition SEL, along with the regular lineup. The newest color options will be Safari Uni (think of a rugged beige/tan that will do a great job hiding the dirt and salt during the New York winters) or a Stonewashed Blue. They'll also be more traditional colors like white, black, grey, etc., and of course you can choose either a hardtop or a convertible model.

The powertrain has been confirmed, and it'll be a 2.0L with 174 horsepower and 184 lb-ft torque. the SE will have a standard touchscreen, Car-Net® which also means you'll get Apple CarPlay™/Android Auto™, and voice control software so you can take command of certain vehicle features while keeping your eyes on the road ahead and your hands on the wheel. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert will also be standard on the SE.

Highlights for the SEL include premium sound by Fender audio, the enhanced Discover Media infotainment system, navigation so you don't get lost driving around the Mohegan Lake, Wappingers Falls, White Plains, or Yorktown Heights areas we serve, park assist for the front and rear bumpers, and a few other subscription packages.

Help us say goodbye to the Volkswagen model that has brought a lot of charm and spunk to the brand for so many years! And fingers crossed that it comes back in a few decades. If you have a Beetle story or photo, we'd love for you to share it with us.
